Overall, I think the course works great. Everything is explained in simple English and the voiceover is wonderful.

Just wanted to drop you a quick email to say thanks for providing a great online learning environment.
1. What qualifications am I going to need as a mold inspector?

Your qualifications will depend on your location. Many states are currently considering to adopt official qualifications for mold inspectors. As a matter of fact, a number of states already have pending legislations for regulatory certifications. OSHAcampus.com’s Mold Inspector Certification program covers an essential skill set to help mold inspectors prepare for a state certification exam.

2. Are there career opportunities for mold inspectors?

Mold inspection is one of the fastest-growing niche market in real estate. It’s even one of the better-paying options, starting at about $300. Various health concerns about mold infections are some of the issues that drive the market. Judging from the strong demand for mold inspection nowadays, one can easily turn mold inspection services (as an independent enterprise or an additional service for an existing business) into a profitable endeavor.

3. Are mold inspection and mold remediation different?

Yes. Mold inspection is about identifying the existence of various mold species through the process of searching, detecting, and sampling. Mold remediation, on the other hand, involves cleaning the area affected by mold and repairing it to prevent recurrence. They are separate fields of expertise belonging to different industries.

4. Why join a nonprofit mold association?

Because a nonprofit mold association, compared with a mold association that operates for profit, ensures that there’s no conflict of interest. Many mold organizations today are operated by mold laboratories or schools that offer coursework on mold inspection or remediation. OSHAcampus.com enrollees, upon payment of the membership fee, become automatic members of the National Association of Mold Premeditators and Inspectors (NAMRI), a nonprofit organization.

5. How do I take the course and how long does it take?

There are two ways to take the course, both very convenient: online or via CD (which is mailed to you). If you choose the first, the entire course (including quizzes) will be made available to you online, and you can access it at your convenience via an Internet connection. Quiz results are recorded automatically so you can monitor your progress any time. The 90-hour mold inspection course usually takes one to two weeks to complete, but you can actually take as long as you like because the course has no completion-time restriction. The 24-hour mold remediation course, on the other hand, takes only a few days to finish. After passing the final exam for either mold inspection or mold remediation, you can print out your individually numbered and signed certificate.

6. What type of equipment do I need to purchase?

Aside from a regular respirator and the necessary protective clothing for hazardous sites, no other equipment is required (additional pieces of equipment are optional). Here’s a short list of essentials that most mold inspectors need: plastic tape or swab (commonly used for surface sampling), collection cartridges and pumps (for air and vacuum sampling efforts), infrared thermometers, moisture meters, and humidity meters.

7. What kind of laboratory do I use to analyze mold samples?

Use laboratories that are accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association. There are many accredited laboratories to choose from—so always consider the cost, convenience, and turnaround time.
