NDEAM 2017: Inclusion Drives Innovation

October – Throughout the month of October, the Department of Labor is recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Inclusion drives innovation. Curb cuts, automatic doors, and voice-recognition software is commonly seen today, but did you know all of it was started from designing and innovation for people with disabilities?

California Wildfires

October 15 – California secured Federal aid for residents in counties impacted by the devastating wildfires that have swept through the region. Deadly wildfires have so far impacted mainly 8 counties, all of which are eligible for Federal aid. Click the link above for FEMA updates.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Acosta Announces Membership of Task Force on Apprenticeship Expansion

October 16 – After the presidential executive order aimed at expanding apprenticeships in America, Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta announced the members of the task force for apprenticeship expansion. The task force comprises of company leaders, trade and industry groups, educational institutions, and labor unions. Check out the link above for the full task force team members.

Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Agbeni Infections Linked to Pet Turtles, 2017

October – With all the other news circulating around, we have been missing the CDC updates for quite some time. Big news over here is Salmonella outbreaks, from cows, chickens, and now pet turtles. Looking at pet turtles, there has been 16 hospitalizations spanning 13 states, with 37 cases in total from Salmonella Agbeni. Once again it is a good reminder to practice good hygiene around pets!
