What is Cal/OSHA?
Cal/OSHA is the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), which works to improve employees’ health and safety by imposing and enforcing safety standards, providing education, and issuing licenses and permits.
California’s state OSHA plan is administered through the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). The state plan applies to most government and private sector employers. In addition to standards as effective as OSHA standards, Cal/OSHA has adopted unique standards addressing toxic chemicals, repetitive motion, noise exposure, and heat exposure.
What are Cal/OSHA Requirements?
General industry employers must provide training to new employees and employees who’re taking on new assignments. OSHA instruction is also required when new hazards, processes, equipment, or substances are introduced in the workplace. Supervisors must also be familiarized with hazards to which their subordinates may be exposed.
Construction employers must establish injury and illness prevention programs. Every 10 days, supervisors should conduct safety meetings with their crews. The specific training requirements depend on the activities employees perform.
What is Cal/OSHA Training?
The objective of Cal/OSHA training is that employees understand the federal OSHA and Cal/OSHA, can identify requirements and violations, avoid hazards, and practice safe work procedures. Cal/OSHA training programs are designed to help employers comply with requirements and cover topics such as:
- Machine guarding

Cal/OSHA-trained employees are safer, more effective, and prepared to prevent incidents and quickly respond to accidents in the workplace.
